To Flickr or Not?

My current Photo Gallery is based off of Google's Picasa. I've been using Picasa for a while to manage the photos on my computer and once the API was exposed to pull the images from the site, it seemed like the best of both worlds, I could let Google's engineers work for me to design and maintain an app to manage my photos but I can still control the display on my web space.

The free hosting isn't bad either. The 1 GB of storage seemed great at the time, but now I'm starting to see that I can fill that up. I take enough pictures with my camera that a single GB may not last much longer. I could pay for additional space, but that of course is something I would prefer to avoid.

Option 2, Flickr.

I started using Flickr to find legal images to use on my site (read more about that here). Reading about what Flickr has to offer, I was intrigued by the unlimited free storage (with only a 100mb upload restriction per month). I'll be able to store all my photos (although I will only be able to upload them at a web optimized resolution) without the hassle of having to manage the space.

The space issue (along with much better rights management) has motivated me to expand my photo gallery to work with Flickr as well as Picasa. Stay tuned and let me know if you want the code for your site.
