Yesterday Jenny and I were out and stopped by a local restaurant for lunch.  It is obvious to me that we have now come to the time of Snowmageddon.  Why else would you have a sign like this on your patio?  As a native San Diegian, this is just not right.

After lunch we stopped by a nearby Home Depot.  While shoveling the never ending snow the last week, we broke the shaft on our steel reinforced snow shovel so we decided to pick up a new one.  The local grocery stores have been sold out for a while, but we figured that Home Depot may have gotten some new shovels in this weekend in preparation for the next round of snow next week.

I've had some free time on my hands and while I was reading the news at Reuters a couple of days ago, I read what had to be a typo.  What "adversity" is a valid word, I have a feeling that Senator Reid has worked for his career to promote "diversity".  This story was filed at 5pm on Saturday and as of now, it is still posted with the mistake.  Apparently the author, Steve Holland, doesn't read the comments on his articles since there several people have posted this blatant error.

I was reading this AP article and noticed that the AP is apparently making up words... If you look at the caption on the photo, it lists Palin and the "fromer" VP candidate.  Seriously, that isn't even a word, don't they at least run spell check on this stuff?


Update: It looks like Google doesn't host AP stories for too long, but you can still the article on sites that publish it.  Here AZ Central, still has the article with the typo in the caption.

A recent study, released on Monday, concludes that Facebook users (at the college level) have lower GPAs than those who do not use Facebook. It does seem like the study is pretty worthless since it doesn't answer any "whys" and the data is too small (only 219 people) to make any real conclusions, but it is intriguing none the less.

The data showed that Facebook users had an average GPA of between 3 and 3.5 compared to non-Facebook users which have an average of 3.5 to 4. If that pans out, there is a pretty significant difference. The author points out that the study doesn't show which variable dependent in this correlation (i.e., Does Facebook use lower your GPA or do people with lower GPAs use Facebook?) but it is undeniable that there is a connection between the two.

So what do you think? Does Facebook make you dumb or are you dumb if you use Facebook?

This afternoon I was skimming the news on the web and I came across the story about the Set of Octuplets born in Los Angeles (on a side note, I just had to add Octuplets to my spell checker). Jenny and I watch Jon and Kate Plus 8 when there is nothing else on so I did find this story a little intriguing.

Once I read the story, two things occurred to me.

1) I like the idea of naming the babies A-H. If we have multiples, I would rather name them in alphabetical order rather than rhyming names or names too similar. I hope the parents take the letters and expand them to full names.

2) It is a little scary to think the mother is going to breast feed ALL of the babies. I admire her for it, but that has got to be a daunting task. I wish her luck.

Recently there was a cheating scandal in the news dealing with the GMAT (the SATs for Business School). A writer at BusinessWeek got a hold of me to get my opinion as a current top tier business school student.

We talked about it for 10-15 minutes (IMHO, let the cheaters pay) which resulted in a few lines in the story . To clarify, while I understand the pressure to cheat I:

1) Don't condone it
2) Don't think it would help
3) Think think they should revoke the scores (and ban them from taking the test again) anyone who posted questions (and kick them out of school)
4) Think they should revoke the scores of anyone trolling the boards for live questions. (Although perhaps they should let them take the test again).

Luckily, my parents have always been supportive of whatever I wanted to do and were happy when I wanted to get a MSBA from San Diego State University. While this is very reputable program that some of my friends have gone through (and my undergrad alma mater), but not a top tier MBA program.

NetworkSolutions ranks up there with the lowest of the low. Apparently they are now hijacking domains that are searched for on their site. They are stealing from their customers. Words can not express what I think of them (well they can, but not words I can use here).

They own it. Someone searched for it on their site and they automatically bought it and are holding if hostage for $35 so you can't buy it from a trust worthy company like GoDaddy.com.

I think Network Solutions purposely makes it difficult to transfer names away from them too. They charge $35 for the EXACT SAME THING that GoDaddy.com charges $10 for. There is no need for this other than to steal from the general consumer. They offer worse service at a higher prices. I always recommended not shopping at these scum sucker's site, but now you should avoid their site unless you don't mind being stolen from.

At least I found a new hobby, go to their site and just search for as many names as you can type of things that don't make sense. Let them pay for useless registrations. Maybe that will get them to understand what idiots they are.
